In a 2019 survey, Idaho teens who reported drinking said they most often consumed alcohol in:
53%
their home
53%
someone else’s home
11%
open areas like parks or campgrounds
28% of these students reported getting their alcohol from a family member.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Never serve or allow minors to access alcohol in your home or on your property.
- Monitor the alcohol levels in your home.
- Start a local chapter of SAFE HOMES, a network of parents who take a pledge to prohibit minors from accessing alcohol and other substances on their property. Each group maintains a directory of local parents and caregivers who have taken the pledge, so you can know who is on the same page before letting your child hang out at someone else’s home. The community of Kamiah, Idaho created a SAFE HOMES network. Review this SAFE HOMES toolkit for starting a chapter in your Idaho community.
